Avon Accommodation is housed above The Old Cottage Restaurant, a delightful thatched cottage which dates back many centuries. Strictly non smoking. Both first floor self-catering apartments feature a comfortable lounge area, a well-equipped compact kitchen and a private bathroom. Linen and towels are included at no additional charge. A welcome pack with milk, cereal and wine is provided. Dogs are welcome and there will be no extra charge providing no damage is done and no extra cleaning is required. Conditions Apply. 30th October 2023:

We had a brilliant stay at Avon Mist while our friends stayed at Avon View. The thatched roof building is beautiful and very quaint. We had plenty of room for my family of four and were even able to all get together with the other party to play cards and games with the children in the evenings. The bed was very comfortable and although being directly on the road it was very quiet. It was great value and I woul definitely stay again.

Tips:

Lovely charity shops in Ringwood, small food and drinks Market in the main square and a lovely bakery, Bakehouse 24 that had lovely food for breakfast. Had a lovely pub dinner at The Fish Inn, 2 minute walk from the accommodation. Not far from lovely walks in the New Forest and travelled to Brokenhurst which was only about 20 minutes away. Definitely check out Ornamental Drive walk.

Hi the location is fantastic and I think the price was good value taking this onto consideration. This is an old thatched cottage and so has small doorways and a creaky floor.Beware of banging your head if tall. Also the internet only worked in one location within appartment which my daughter hogged. The facilties are basic but serviceable.

Everything was straight forward. There was good communication from the owner following the booking. The rooms were as described and as to be expected from an old cottage. Nothing was too much trouble for their front of house lady below in the pub who also helped us with our stay above in the accommodation. The private snug in the pub below made a great meeting point for ourselves and other members of our party who had booked in elsewhere. We only managed to have one meal in the restaurant, which was a Sunday carvery, the complaint if you could call it a complaint was most northerners like mash potatoes as well as roast potatoes 🤣… the food itself was well cooked and our complements to the chef/ owner who had slaved his way through a busy day. The front of house was very friendly and polite and above all helpful and understanding, again nothing was too much trouble.

Tips:

We used to live between fordingbridge and ringwood so we knew our way around … we would suggest visiting fordingbridge as it does get missed out on. For ideas other places to visit and recommended restaurants speak to the front of house in the cottage or the other staff as they are all local 🙂

Lovely gesture with the wine, cereal and milk being left for us also being able to take a mug with us. Owner responded quickly to the email about only 1 bowl in the apartment and had a few more left for us. Great service. We would stay here again.

Tips:

Good fish and chip shop nearby, we took our dog and walked part of the Castleman Trail, you can go to Poole however we didn’t go that far. Lovely high streets with independent retailers as well as names we all know. Not too far from Monkey World where I went to.

Our stay was wonderful, the accommodation was close to the town and next to a lovely little river. It’s a very quaint little cottage like apartment, everything worked fine and coffee and tea and milk were left for us :)

Tips:

If you are staying with children, the floors are quite loud to walk across and the doors are loud to close. It didn’t bother us at all but something to keep in mind if you have light sleepers with you.

We had a lovely stay at the Avon. With my friend joining us we used the sofa bed and found it very comfortable. The rooms were large and full of architectural character, which was wonderful. All the appliances worked well and the welcome pack was a lovely surprise.

Tips:

Ringwood is a great base to explore the area. New Forest, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Blandford Forum and Southampton. The town itself has a great range and number of quality restaurants. We ate at the Ghurka and Italian restaurants and both were delicious meals. There is a great range of shops and a pretty little park nextdoor to the Avon. A beautiful church. Very pleasant.

Beautiful quirky property. The cottage has everything you might need during a self catering break. The linen and bathroom were nice and clean. There was a little dusting that had been missed and a few cobwebs but we appreciate there was an extreme heatwave immediately prior to our check in!

Tips:

In Ringwood we had 2 lovely evening meals, at the Curry Garden and Prezzos. Unfortunately our schedule didn't allow for us to dine in the old cottage restaurant itself. Having a small child with us, we went to Avon Beach 2 days in a row, a friendly family sandy lifeguarded beach, with plenty of amenities along the promenade. On our final day we went to Moors Valley Park, food was a bit pricey, so do take a packed lunch.

The flat is well appointed for a few nights stay and we were grateful for the addition of an extra bed. We were lucky that the restaurant wasn’t open during 2 nights of our stay as it was quite noisy for the children on the night that it was open. However for adults it was fine. On our last night excavations in the street opposite were started at 10pm and finished at 1am so my husband couldn’t sleep well that night. We found it very strange that the council would allow that in a residential area!

The staff in the restaurant are very very helpful , always happy to give advice and good on local knowledge, perhaps look at upgrading the WiFi or boasting the single strength as it was poor if I’m honest, it may be the building as it’s old but obviously in this day and age it’s what we look at now when booking, the apartment is wonderful and well maintained, clean and well equipped enjoyed our stay . Found the buses parking and ticking over opposite the cottage and guys talking really loud at 5am on a Monday morning quite annoying (obviously not your fault) but think they should have a bit of respect for local residents tbh.

Local pubs The Tap Inn and the The Railway very friendly only eat in the Railway and the food was very good beer as well and Prezzo Italian restaurant 3 minutes walk wonderful for food and atmosphere . All in all everything local was wonderful.

Lovely little cottage, cute facilities. A little far out from the new forest ponies (30 minute drive) so if you’re going solely to see them, be prepared to travel. Lovely location based at the end of a highstreet so lots of food places and shops too. Kitchen was small but workable, microwave oven just as a warning and hobs slightly temperamental. The staff were lovely and helpful.

Tips:

We went to moors valley country park to go to go ape- that was amazing but the parking was on the pricier side. Lymington adventure golf- 30 min drive but the course was great and only £8. A day trip to Bournemouth is highly recommended- be careful of the parking again. The Railway pub- 15 min walk but so cute! They do amazing burgers.

So close to the main shopping street with loads of pubs, restaurants etc to choose from.Literally a 2 minute walk. Cannot fault this accommodation at all and in a perfect location for visiting the New Forest. Would definitely return.

Ringwood is a lovely village. I love to be out in the countryside with my dogs several times a year. A self contained cottage is ideal. The cottage was cosy and clean with a nice fenced garden and a small park just aside. The landlords were very hospitable and helpful (I forgot my keys in the cottage , which was solved quickly with the landlord coming right away!). I highly recommend this cottage!

Tips:

Ringwood is lovely with many small lanes, pubs, and coffee places. There are several nice circuit walks. Moors Country Park is close (though parking is very expensive). Easy approach to the seaside and Salisbury. I love this area.

Great stay, thanks very much. Reasons for the 4/5 ratings below - all minor: - kids made Lego on the floor and their assembled creations had hairs stuck in them (dog and human) so I think the carpets could do with a more thorough vacuum - needs a cloth for wiping down the table. We could only find a dish sponge. - could do with some hooks on the back of the bathroom door to hang up towels and a shelf in the shower room - might be worth checking with the wifi provider to get a consistent service

Tips:

Great place for a short stay of up to a family of 4. Staying in such a charming old building is a great experience for kids and foreign visitors. Narrow steep stairs and sloping floors so able-bodied only. Big folks will find the bathroom/toilet cramped. Very central, nice pub (Fish Inn) with garden close by and several other dining options. Kitchenette only suitable for basic meal prep. Spotty wifi. We had no issues with noise from downstairs as others have noted. Excellent location for New Forest Water Park, Go Ape in Moors Valley, horse riding at Bagnam, Liberty’s Raptor Centre and biking at Burley.

We stayed in Avon Mist and it was absolutely delightful. We really appreciated the bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and the chalk note, a very nice welcome! It’s a truly lovely place to stay when visiting Ringwood and the bed was very comfortable, we will definitely be staying there again – Thank you!

Tips:

Look no further when it comes to restaurants, just go downstairs, a very good and varied menu. There is also Love Italy, great coffee and good food, coffee was so good we bought a kilo bag of beans! Luna Coffee is another good independent coffee house, with a lovely outside space at the back. Dressing Room is an independent women’s clothes shop, with clothes you wouldn’t find on the high street and good fabrics, cotton, silk etc. helpful and friendly shop assistant. All in all it’s a friendly town.

Lovely building and facilities.. as expected, very well presented. The only comment is, while the information folder is very useful, it does need reviewing. I did not locate the shaver socket in the bedroom, or the fold away additional worktop as described. Otherwise a really enjoyable stay. I left some leaflets about the New Forest on the table with the folder, it would be nice to have these for arrival, as an introduction to the area.

Tips:

Lots of very nice local restaurants and shops within a minutes walk. Very friendly locals can give ideas for places to see. A must is the ice-cream outside the Old Shed in Burley, 10 minutes drive away, and the lovely small town of Lyndhurst 15 minutes away. Check the free, and readily available New Forest pamphlets to list the places to visit like the reptile center for an insight into the conservation projects going on.

Fine if you do not want to cook full meals as there is no built in kitchen only a cupboard with fridge hob microwave sink. Lovely garden for children annd dog. Restaurant not open much during our stay. Front door sometimes difficult to open/lock.Quite noisy as close to A31 but this didnt worry us.

We booked up at the last minute and found a gem of a place to stay. We had a 2 night stay with our family dog and having a apartment is a lot easier than a hotel room. Instructions on how to get in the room were clear. The owner and staff were all very hospitable. We will defiantly book again.

Tips:

Food in the restaurant is excellent and we can highly recommend the mushroom starter and the beef stroganoff.

1st May 2016:

Considering you were dishing up 75 dishes to so many hungry (mostly drunken guests!) we were very impressed! Food/hosting wise (considering our very fussy guests!) you were amazing, thank you! Our accommodation upstairs was lovely too, more then you'd ever need for one nights stay plus a very pleasant view to boot! The only thing (and this is personal preference) is the curtains didn't block out enough light! I was up with the sun (at just after 6am) But that is just because I find it hard to sleep once woken :) It is a very pretty, clean and efficient place to stay, I can't believe you fitted so many features in a small space!

Tips:

The views from the cottage are amazing and if you are seeking a small friendly place to stay this is perfect, we will def be back again! I cannot say enough how friendly and down to earth the staff are, even accommodating our children's requests on helping out. My 9 year old son is most proud Paul helped him 'pop' the bottle of Champagne at his Mothers wedding :) (without asking I hasten to say!) The area is beautiful, anyone who knows the New Forest knows this is the area to be in :) Food wise this place will knock your socks off....vegetarian..no problem. vegan...no problem...gluten free...no problem and by no problem I don't mean baked potato and beans I mean the chef finds this a welcome challenge! Paul is a man who knows his food, ask him and he will produce :) I absolutely 1000% recommend this place to stay or just to eat, you won't be sorry :)

31st August 2015:

The accommodation is really quaint. The facilities fit in the context well - but of course have all the modern comfort. It is one of the oldest houses of Ringwood, I understood. The compact-kitchenette is hidden in a large wall cabinet and contains nearly all you can wish for. There is a pub downstairs below the apartment. It's open only for lunch and dinner times and usually closes at about 10pm. Of course all the walls aren't straight and the windows are small. It is a popular preconception, that Germans fear suffocation, if they are not able to air out their rooms properly. Well this accommodation has only one opening window, being so small, even a persons head would not fit through. This window is supposed to ventilate kitchen, the kids bedroom and the master bedroom, when to doors are kept open. However the thick walls ensure a good indoor climate.

The charming renovated really old house was as nice as the pictures! We loved to stay in Avon View. It is a beautiful appartment with lots of charisma. We found every thing we need for a self catering holiday. As we arrived late on saturday the little breakfast preparation for sunday was very welcome. The only sad thing was the noise from the traffic in august. We diddn´t used the garden area very much because of this. The hosts were very friendly and open to us and helped us with every question we had within two weeks. Thanks Tricia, Paul and family!

Tips:

The restaurant in the basement is very good and with the same charme as the appartment. You shouldn´t miss a day out at corfe castle and at compton acres gardens.

A warm and welcoming cosy atmosphere. The accomadation is spacious and has everything you could need - from an iron to fresh milk and coffee in the fridge. Our third stay and we'll be back soon!!

Tips:

You can't beat Pauls cooking and Marilyn's wam personality - just pop downstairs to the extensive mouth watering menu. Over our three stays and several night out visits I can safely say we've worked our way through the menu. Try the artichoke heart starter and the scallops - amazing!
