Newton Farmhouse

Southampton Road Salisbury
Tel: 01794 884416
Little Newt is set between Newton Farmhouse and our garden. It is a self contained 1 bedroom building with, bathroom, sitting room, dining area/workspace and a fully equipped kitchen. We have just finished a complete refurbishment in February, so everything is fresh and up to date. The outside space comprises of a paved area at the rear of the building facing up towards the garden. There is a table and chairs underneath an old apple tree where you can enjoy eating outdoors in the sun. Little Newt has a terrace with table and chairs for you to enjoy during your stay. We have a large garden , with a paddock at the top. We keep chickens and they share the paddock with 4 Alpacas, Bob, Mrs Brown, Al and the one with no name! You are welcome to walk up and visit the animals, the Alpacas are friendly but quite nervous of people who they don't know, so approach them slowly. We also sell eggs from our free range girls if you want some during your stay.

Was so pleased that we were able to stay again...can't sing praises for the farmhouse loudly enough! Friendly welcome, clean, tidy place and good accommodation! We shall return often especially while our grandson is less than an hour away at Portsmouth uni. and less than 30 minutes to my aunt's home in the heart of the New Forest.

Tips:

The owners, David and Lizzie are better qualified to tell their guests about the variious restaurants nearby and all the many attractions around as the variety is endless!

Fabulous, warm and friendly Bed&Breakfast. I only stayed for one night which was a real pity as there is a lot to explore in the area and at the Farm. I happened to be staying on the hottest day of the year(!), so the pool and shady garden were a real bonus. Breakfast was just about perfect. Can't wait to stay again.

Friendly, accommodating staff. Lovely and comfortable room and bed. Great breakfast, including my request for gluten free bread and oat milk. Added bonuses of outdoor pool and fresh eggs from their own chickens. Lovely large garden to relax in and for children to explore. Would return when next in area.

Tips:

Easy to find off main road near village of Whiteparish with good pubs. Not far from Broadlands and the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens which was well worth a visit.

BREAKFAST All best quality produce. The best selection of fresh fruit I've ever had and a full English breakfast cooked to perfection. HOSTS Lovely friendly and helpful, what more could you ask for. I'd love to criticise as I'm quite fussy about things, but the attention to detail is exceptional. Thank you. Richard and Jenny Barton

4th July 2016:

Well located for the New Forest and for Salisbury, with the only disadvantage being the necessity of driving or getting a taxi to go out for a meal or drink (though one pub is within 20-30 min walk). David and Lizzie are hospitality itself, offering a kind and attentive welcome, and lots of tips on what to do and where to go in the vicinity. Our room (number 3) was very comfortable indeed, with a lovely bathroom and bed. Everything was absolutely spotlessly clean. Sadly it was too cold for using the swimming pool, but in good weather, I'm sure it would be a huge boon.

Tips:

The Royal Oak at Fritham offers a very good ploughmans lunch, after a walk in the forest on the track to Linwood. The Wig and Quill in Salisbury had good live music on Saturday evening, and an excellent food menu (you can book a table online, in advance, at no extra cost).

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Newton farmhouse. Lizzie and David were both so lovely and offer such a warm welcome into their home. They were both able to offer us advise on where to eat in the evenings and the perfect places for us to spend our days. The location was great for our intentions during our stay, the farmhouse is close to some fantastic walking locations and a short drive from a great bike hire facility. There are some great pubs in the area too. Our room was very comfortable and clean with all the amenities you could ask for; the style and furnishings were delightful also. I cannot recommend the Newton Farmouse and its hosts Lizzie and David highly enough, I would definitely stay again!

Tips:

We ate at The Rockingham Arms and The Queens Head - both of which I would recommend. There are lots of places for walking and biking within a short driving distance; we enjoyed several walks in the Nomansland area and Canada Common - although the latter is quite muddy and boggy so I would recommend wellies or boots! We visited the tall redwood trees at Blackwatwr on two occasions as it is such a beautiful area.

This B&B is utterly charming and a huge amount of effort has been made on the decor, the amenities (everything I needed was tucked away in a drawer or cupboard and there are lots of power points etc) and the service. There is WiFi available. The breakfast includes lots of high quality options and I found it very satisfying. I loved going to see the alpacas and the chickens, taking a stroll in the garden and playing with the friendly dogs. The owners are lovely people and went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and to give tips on the local area. A perfect countryside stay!

Tips:

I visited a wonderful restaurant called The Pig in Brockenhurst, where they source a lot of their menu items from a splendid kitchen garden. I also enjoyed the New Forest Wildlife Park and the plant nursery and farm shop at Setley Ridge Winery. All of these places are within about 20 minutes of the B&B.

The breakfasts were really good, particularly the range of fresh fruit and the fresh eggs. There was only one small negative, and that was the access to the place, which took some getting used to from the main road. However on the plus side it was very convenient and David gave us lots of good tips on routes to use.

Tips:

The route suggested by David from the farmhouse to the south via the arboretum, avoiding Lyndhurst, was beautiful. The King's Head in Redlynch was great pub food. Salisbury is a good destination if the weather is bad, and take David's advice on avoiding the dual carriageway.

David & Lizzie made us very welcome. Loved the delicious breakfast of wide choice of fresh fruits & juices. The cooked breakfast were delicious especially the free range eggs from the farm & lovely sausages. Our room Nomansland was very spacious & very comfortable kingsize bed.

Tips:

The 1 1/2 hr tour guide around Salisbury main attractions was well worth time & money spent. Had delicious Thai meal at the Giggling Squid (reasonably prices) by the market place in Salisbury. We spent a day at The Hilliers 180 acres of exceptional & remarkable garden situated near Romsey. Stonehenge is a must for anyone interested in history.

A lovely place to stay - our room was lovely and the garden is very relaxing. The owners and staff are really friendly - and the breakfast kept us going until the evening!

Tips:

We specifically went down to go to Stonehenge - which was fab. A drive through the New Forest was lovely. We also went into Salisbury and the Cathedral. We went to the King's Head and the Fountain pubs for evening meals - food was nice in both (the Fountain is a nice walk from Newton Farmhouse). There are lots of other things to see and do - you need more than two nights to get around them all!

Thank you for the evening dinner recommendation, the lift into the pub and for arranging our taxi back. Breakfast was wonderful. Our only snag was not being able to work the shower in the Trafalgar Suite, so having to have a rushed bath in order to be downstairs in time for your cooked breakfast.

Tips:

Your restaurant recommendation was spot on. Thank you. We enjoyed Salisbury on the way to you, and New Forest walks after leaving. We visited Burley on the taxi driver's recommendation but, not being into witches (!), didn't stay long. I will be recommending you to those who share my naval interests. A warm, hugely relaxing place to stay. We have returned many times and will continue to do so. Really good in all seasons with a lovely pool to swim in when in the warmer months and a cosy place to relax and unwind when its cold! Although close to a road its actually really quiet and peaceful! The most delicious ,generous breakfasts and very friendly, helpful owners. It feels like a home from home!

Tips:

Lots of great walks in The New Forest just a 6min drive away. Really good choice of delicious places to eat, especial favourites are the Royal Oak pub for simple but delicious soup, ploughmans lunch and also delicious French cooking at Les Mirabelles for a more luxurious special occassion dinner. Also Salisbury Cathedral just 10 mins drive away. David and Lizzie are also full of information to help advice you how best to plan your stay and make best use of your time, if you so wish.

14th July 2014:

Good morning, Lizzie & David We do hope you are both well. Well thank you both for a great relaxing stay. We both enjoyed immensely your company and your fantastic facilities. A rest break from the norm is what we needed and that is what we got. A great friendly welcome and great atmosphere. Missing the breakfast, chickens and dogs. No bantam's as yet for Rose! Thank you for a great time and warm welcome. Regrads Andy & Rose

Tips:

Relax, enjoy and un-wind. We visited the Kings Head as recommended and had a great meal. Local walks are good. The New Forest route that David showed as is stunningly beautiful.

11th July 2014:

David and Lizzie, the owners, are a delightful and hospitable couple. Although at first we were a little apprehensive about the location, due to the fact it was next to the busy A36, it proved not to be a problem at all. We had a lovely three days at Newton Farmhouse and would, therefore, recommend it.

We were very pleased with the service you provided us with! We definitely return on our next trip to the new forest! Room wS lovely, breakfast was great and you were so helpful and friendly!

Tips:

We recommend the kings head for food! Going into lyndhurst for shopping and cream tea! The Sir Walter tyrell for best pub garden! Longleat safari park and the new forest wildlife park are both good! And fording bridge is one of our favourite places to visit for the beautiful river!

2nd July 2014:

Lizzie and david were really easy to deal with re the booking and when we got there the welcome and information given was fantastic. The garden suite was lovely to saty in and the breakfast was brilliant.

Tips:

We stayed there to specifically take the kids to peppa pig world and longleat and the property was an ideal mix of being a reasonable drive while being able to stay close to the new forrest and being somewhere a bit more peaceful. We ate at the kings head which was nice the wooden spoon which was our least favorite and on the last evening we went to the fountain inn where the food and service was great. We also managed to squeeze a visit to furzey gardens which is only a 15min drive through the new forrest which is great for the kids to have a run around.

We stayed here for ages ... 5 nights to be exact. A home away from home, with a scrumptious breakfast every morning. Lizzy, David, Poppy, Guinness and Twiggy, thanks for everything! We'll definitely be back again!

Tips:

The New Forest is beautiful! If you're planning to go to Stonehenge, make sure you get there before midday!

25th June 2014:

The room we had was spacious and very cute. Lots of little touches such as biscuits, chocolates, tea and coffee in the room, hairdryer, beautiful bedding. David and his wife were very personable and helpful. Breakfast was outstanding and we loved the walk in the morning to see the chickens, alpaca and lovely gardens and grounds. Would definitely recommend.

Tips:

This is a short drive to Salisbury and a bit longer to Stonehenge but both could be visited in a day.

Lizzie and David are welcoming, friendly and helpful, hence we settled in instantly (particularly useful on a short weekend break). Their efficiency and cheerfulness leads to the perfect hosts.

Tips:

We followed David's suggestions for walks and this worked out fabulously, saving us a lot if time. In addition to the New Forest walks, the walk out from the marina at Lymington is great.

We thoroughly enjoyed our nights stay with you, thank you for being so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was just lovely, plenty on offer and served with a smile!

Tips:

The Forest Falconry! I had booked this for a birthday treat for my best friend and we loved it, its less than five minutes away for Newton Farmhouse. Well worth doing, getting up close and personal with everything from an owl to an Eagle! The guys that run it are great, a real experience.

We felt at home immediately so this can only be a good sign.

Tips:

Apart from the must-do's (Winchester Cathedral, walk in the new forest near the Knightwood oak, watch wild ponies and donkeys...), i shoud say : search for the hidden Norman Church of Stratford Tony, take the little ferry to Hurst Castle and watch how the coatline has been defended for ages, Enjoy the beautiful countryside during a long walk between the rivers Anton and Test near Fullerton and Chilbolton, get the real Robin Hood-feeling in ancient Langley Wood (boots needed !), Drive from Shaftsbury (Gold Hill, beautiful view from the rear terrace of The Mittre) to Tollard Royal and then through small lanes to Farnham, Chettle (don't go to Chettle house because you get thrown out by te owner), Long Crickel (with its bakery in the middle of nowhere)and on to Cranborne. Get a creepy feeling when the night is already falling at Damerham going over the "water beds". Watch Van Dyk's and other Flemish painters at Wilton House. Look if there is a gig of some youngsters in The Parish Latern in Whiteparish (they might be very famous in a couple of years). And so on....
